Amber tractor beacons

An amber tractor beacon is a flashing or rotating warning lamp with an amber lens, and it is the only beacon colour permitted on a tractor using public roads in Great Britain. The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 require an amber beacon on any vehicle with a maximum speed of 25mph or less when it travels on an unrestricted dual carriageway, and most farms run one on every road journey. Amber beacon rules for tractors on UK roads

An amber beacon must be visible from every direction at a reasonable distance, must flash between 60 and 240 times a minute, and must be mounted at least 1.2 metres above the ground. Green beacons are reserved for registered medical practitioners and blue for emergency vehicles, so amber is the colour for agricultural use. Beacons sold for road use carry an ECE R65 mark; class 1 is rated for night use and class 2 for day and night. Where one beacon is hidden by a front loader or a high trailer, a second amber beacon on the rear of the cab or the trailer restores all-round visibility.

Choosing an amber tractor beacon
