12V tractor beacons

A 12V tractor beacon is an amber warning lamp rated for the 12 volt electrical system found on most tractors, quads, pickups and farm 4x4s. This range lists 33 dedicated 12V tractor beacons from Hella, in LED flashing and halogen rotating designs, with DIN pole, three-bolt and magnetic mounts. 12V tractor beacons for older and compact tractors

Older tractors such as the Massey Ferguson 135, Ford 4000 and John Deere 2140 run 12V systems with alternators of 35A to 55A, so a low-draw beacon protects the charging system when work lights and heater fans are also on. A 12V LED beacon draws 0.5A to 1A; a 12V rotating halogen beacon draws 4A to 5A. Compact and vineyard tractors, ride-on mowers and quads are also 12V, and magnetic-base 12V beacons with a cigarette-lighter plug move between them without wiring. Positive-earth vintage tractors need a converter before fitting any electronic beacon.

Wiring a 12V tractor beacon

Wire a 12V beacon through a switched, fused feed of 5A for LED or 10A for halogen, using the DIN pole socket on the cab roof where one is fitted. A DIN A pole carries both the power and the earth, so the beacon plugs on and locks with the bayonet fitting. Bolt-on beacons use a two-core cable through a grommet in the roof, with the earth taken to the cab frame.
