Plugs, sockets and connectors are the parts that join a tractor's lighting circuit to a trailer, implement or lamp: 7-pin and 13-pin trailer plugs and sockets, plug housings, blade and bullet connectors, cable connector kits and the multi-cavity connector housings and terminals used in John Deere looms. Types of plug and socket in this range
Trailer plugs and sockets come in 7-pin 12N (lighting), 7-pin 12S (supplementary) and 13-pin formats, in 12V and 24V, in plastic and metal bodies. Plug housings are the multi-pin shells that take crimped terminals to rebuild a lamp or sensor connector. Cable connectors cover insulated crimp connectors by cable size and Hella connector kits for specific lamps. John Deere connector housings and terminals are listed by part number with the tractor models they fit.
Choosing a trailer plug or socket
Match the pin count and voltage to the tractor: agricultural trailers in the UK use a 7-pin 12N plug for lights, and a 24V tractor needs a 24V-rated socket because the pin layout differs from 12V. A metal socket with a sprung lid lasts longer on a tractor that lives outside. Where the connector is on a John Deere loom, search the part number on the old housing. The relays, flasher units and switches behind the socket are in the same range, and the trailer lamps themselves are under tractor lighting. Cable, terminals and fuses by the box are under electrical assembly.
