7-pin trailer plugs and sockets

A 7-pin trailer plug and socket is the standard lighting connection between a tractor and an agricultural trailer in the UK: seven pins carrying left and right indicators, tail lights, stop lights, fog lamp and earth. Choosing a 7-pin plug or socket

Match the voltage first, because the pin layout of a 24N socket differs from a 12N socket to stop mismatched connections. Then pick the body: a metal socket with a sprung lid lasts longer on a tractor kept outside, and a plastic plug is lighter on a trailer board that is moved between trailers.
