Fuses and Fuse Holders

Fuses and fuse holders protect a tractor's lighting and electrical circuits: standard blade (ATO), mini blade, micro, maxi, MEGA, JCASE, strip and glass fuses from 3A to 150A, with inline holders, fuse boxes and junction blocks to mount them. A fuse is rated by current and colour-coded to a standard, so the right replacement is a matter of reading the old one.

Types of fuse in this range

Blade fuses (ATO) cover 3A to 40A in the standard colour code: violet 3A, tan 5A, brown 7.5A, red 10A, blue 15A, yellow 20A, clear 25A, green 30A, orange 40A. Mini and micro blade fuses use the same colours in a smaller body for modern cabs. Maxi fuses run 20A to 80A for main feeds. MEGA and strip fuses cover 40A to 150A alternator and battery feeds. JCASE fuses fit the cartridge slots in newer fuse boxes. Glass fuses cover older tractors and accessories. Fuse holders cover inline blade and glass holders, 4 to 16-way fuse boxes and junction blocks.

Choosing a fuse

Replace a fuse with the same type and rating; a higher rating removes the protection and a lower one blows on the inrush from a beacon or work light. Size a new circuit at the next standard rating above the running current: two 55W halogen work lights on 12V draw 9.2A, so a 10A or 15A fuse is correct. Fit a fuse holder within 300mm of the battery on any new feed. Relays and switches for the same circuit are in this range, and the lamps are under tractor lighting.
