Halogen work lights

A halogen work light is a lamp that lights a work area around a tractor or machine using a 55W H3 halogen bulb behind a reflector and a glass lens, and it is the direct replacement for the work lamps fitted to tractors built before 2015. Halogen work lights cost less than LED units and use the same bolt and bracket fittings, so one can be swapped without any change to wiring or mounts. Halogen work light bulbs and output

An H3 55W bulb is the fitting in nearly every halogen work light, delivering around 1,450 lumens at 12V; 24V versions use an H3 70W bulb. The H3 bulb has a single flying lead and a push-fit base, and it lasts 300 to 500 hours in the vibration of a cab roof, so replacement bulbs are stocked alongside the lamps. Halogen light is warm white at 3,200K and renders colour naturally, which some operators prefer for close work at the hitch. Glass lenses resist scratching from branches and washing better than polycarbonate, and Hella's Comet, Micro FF and Ultra Beam halogen families cover round, oval and rectangular fittings.

Halogen or LED work lights for a tractor

A halogen work light draws 4.6A at 12V, so six halogen lamps on a cab roof pull 28A, which is beyond the spare capacity of a 35A alternator on an older tractor with the heater and beacon running. An LED work light draws under 1A for similar output, lasts 20,000 hours and has no bulb to replace, which suits a machine that works through the winter nights.
