Where amber marker lights go on a trailer

Fit the first amber side marker within 4 metres of the front of the trailer and the last within 1 metre of the rear, with no gap over 3 metres between them, at least 350mm above the ground. Amber side reflectors sit at the same positions and are combined with the lamp in many units. Bale trailers, low loaders and long grain trailers carry three to four amber markers per side. Wide implements such as sprayers and cultivators over 2.55 metres also need amber side marker lamps when towed on the road after dark, on rubber-arm mounts that survive folding and hedge contact.

Choosing an amber marker light

LED amber marker lights draw 0.05A to 0.1A each, last more than 20,000 hours and are sealed to IP67, so they suit a trailer that stands outside all year; the LED marker lights page lists them by mount. Bulb amber markers with a 5W W5W bulb remain the like-for-like replacement for older trailers, and both types appear in the full marker lights range with white front and red rear position lamps.
