How Claas Machine Lighting Works
A Claas machine lighting system is the network of lamps, wiring looms, switches, and electronic control modules fitted to a Claas tractor, combine, or forager for road, field, and night-harvest use. The harvester philosophy follows a high-density approach where a single combine carries 20 to 40 lamps because night harvesting requires illumination of the header, the unloading auger, the grain tank, the engine bay, and the rear discharge in addition to road-going compliance.
Three lighting eras define the brand’s lighting history. The classic era runs from the 1980s through the late 1990s, covering the Dominator combines, the early Mega and Lexion harvesters, the Renault-era tractors (acquired in 2003 and rebranded as Claas), and the Celtis and Ares tractor ranges. Identifying Your Claas Series

Reading the Tractor Model Number
A Claas tractor model number gives the engine power tier. An Arion 660 is the 185 hp tier of the Arion family; an Axion 920 is the 355 hp tier of the Axion family; a Xerion 5000 is the 530 hp tier. The chassis plate confirms exact build year and lighting specification.
Reading the Combine Model Number
A Claas combine model number reflects the threshing system and capacity tier. A Lexion 8900 sits at the top of the Lexion range with the APS Synflow Hybrid threshing system; a Trion 750 sits at the top of the Trion range; a Tucano 580 carries the Hybrid threshing system. The 2003 Renault Acquisition
A Celtis, Ares, or Atles tractor is a rebadged Renault Agriculture tractor inherited by Claas after the 2003 acquisition. Arion and Axion Headlamps
A current Arion 660 or Axion 920 carries factory LED headlamps as standard on the top trims and H7 halogen on the entry trims. The LED unit is a sealed assembly with a CAN-bus connection. The light output rises from approximately 1,500 lumens per H7 lamp to 4,500 to 6,000 lumens per LED replacement, with a sharper cut-off line and a longer reach down the road.
Xerion Headlamps
A Claas Xerion is a systems tractor with a rotating cab and 4-wheel-drive of equal-sized wheels. The headlamps sit on the cab corner posts and provide forward illumination in both forward and reverse cab orientations. The current Xerion 12.650 carries 4 factory LED headlamps and 4 LED auxiliary spots. Earlier Xerion 5000 and 4500 used H7 halogen with optional HID. Aftermarket LED replacement is straightforward for the H7 generation and unnecessary for the LED generation.
Heritage Celtis, Ares, and Atles Headlamps
A Celtis 446 or Ares 567 carries twin H4 60/55W halogen bulbs in plastic housings inherited from Renault Agriculture. Bulb access requires opening the bonnet, releasing the wire retainer clip, and withdrawing the bulb from the rear.

A Claas beacon is a flashing amber warning light fitted to the cab roof for road-legal slow-moving vehicle compliance. The factory beacon position on Arion, Axion, and Xerion sits on the rear right cab roof corner with a fixed DIN socket. The Lexion combine carries 2 beacons mounted on the cab roof corners for 360-degree visibility on the road.
The 2026 Lexion LED Rotating Beacon Update
From the 2026 model year, all Lexion combines carry new LED rotating beacons as standard. The new beacon replaces the previous halogen rotating unit, runs cooler, draws 1 to 2 amps instead of 4 to 5 amps for halogen, and lasts 30,000 hours instead of 1,000 hours. The mounting socket remains DIN-pattern, which means a halogen beacon on a 2024 or 2025 Lexion can be retrofitted with the LED unit using the same socket.
Beacons for Older Claas Combines

The 2026 Lexion LED Update
From the 2026 model year, every Lexion combine model adopts new LED rotating beacons and a new rear lamp cluster with a modernised look. The update applies to Lexion 8700, 8800, and 8900 as standard and to the smaller Lexion 7400, 7500, and 7600 models on the higher trim levels.
The 2026 update covers 4 specific changes. The beacons move from halogen rotating to LED rotating with a brighter daytime signal and a 30-times longer service life. The rear lamps move from bulb-based to LED-based with a sharper indicator and brake light output. The 3 LED headlight packages within the customisable visibility configuration cover entry, mid, and premium tiers. The header lighting upgrades to higher-output LED units sized for the 12 metre and 13.8 metre Vario headers.
For owners of pre-2026 Lexion combines, the 2026 LED beacon retrofits directly into the existing DIN socket. The rear lamp cluster does not retrofit because it uses a different mounting pattern and CAN-bus connection.
Upgrading Older Claas Machines to LED
A Claas LED upgrade replaces the original halogen lamp with an LED equivalent. The upgrade improves visibility, reduces alternator load, and extends service interval from 500 to 1,000 hours (halogen) to 30,000 hours (LED).
Heritage Combines (Dominator, Mega, early Lexion)
A Dominator 108, a Mega 360, or a Lexion 480 left the factory with H3 halogen work lamps and either H4 sealed-beam or H4 halogen headlamps. The H3 work lamp accepts an LED H3 plug-in retrofit; alternatively a direct-fit sealed LED unit replaces the entire halogen lamp. A Celtis 446 or early Arion 640 carries H4 or H7 halogen headlamps that accept plug-in LED replacements. The work lamps on these tractors are typically H3 55W halogen and accept H3 LED plug-ins. CAN-bus considerations apply only to Arion 660 from 2014 onwards; earlier Arion tractors use simple switched circuits without bulb-out monitoring.
CAN-Bus Compatible LED on Modern Claas
A modern Arion, Axion, or Xerion uses CAN-bus monitoring on the lighting circuit. A plain LED bulb triggers a bulb-out warning.
