Choosing a bolt or stud
Match the thread, the length and the grade, and check whether the fixing needs a plain shank (a bolt) or a full thread (a set screw). Carriage bolts suit timber and trailer boards where the square neck stops the bolt turning; eyebolts take a lifting or tensioning load. Set screws are under set screws, and nuts and washers under nuts and washers and seals.
