Starters and alternators cover the starter motor that turns the engine over and the alternator that charges the battery and runs the lights, plus starter solenoids, ring gears, drive pinions, alternator regulators and pulleys. Most lines are supplied by John Deere part number with fitment; universal starter motors and alternators are listed by voltage, output and mounting.

Types of part in this range

Starter motors cover 12V and 24V units from 2.2kW to 6kW, gear reduction and direct drive. Alternators cover 12V and 24V units from 55A to 200A with the pulley and connector type listed. Solenoids cover starter solenoids and relays. Ring gears and pinions cover the teeth the starter engages. Regulators and rectifiers cover the voltage control inside the alternator. Brackets and belts cover the mounting hardware.

Choosing a starter or alternator

Match the voltage, the mounting pattern and, for an alternator, the output: a tractor with LED work lights and a beacon adds around 10A to the load, but a machine running four halogen work lights, a heated screen and a sprayer controller needs the higher output unit specified for that model.
