24V relays

A 24V relay is an electromagnetic switch with a 24 volt coil for the lighting and accessory circuits on 24 volt tractors, telehandlers, combines and lorries. This page lists the 24V relays in the range: 4-pin make relays and 5-pin changeover relays from 20A to 70A, with and without suppression diodes, plus sockets and holders. A 12V relay fitted to a 24V machine burns its coil out; the coil voltage has to match.

Choosing a 24V relay

On 24 volts a lamp draws half the current it would on 12 volts, so four 70W halogen work lights draw 11.7A and a 20A relay covers them with margin. Use a 4-pin relay for a single work light or beacon circuit and a 5-pin changeover relay where one switch selects between two outputs. Relays with a resistor or diode across the coil protect the electronic switches found in modern cabs. Fuse the feed with a 24V-rated fuse from fuses and fuse holders.
